Xyntek is looking for qualified IT technicians to support technology projects within the life science industry that make use of automation & control technology.  Specifically, projects involving track & trace and serialization of pharmaceutical products.  Wherein, the Xyntek Field Installation Technician is an integral contributor to the Serialization Solutions Engineering team.  

Activities performed by Xyntek Field Installation Technicians, in general, include installing software, firmware, and device drivers, setting up and configuring equipment, monitoring computer processing systems, diagnosing computer and device issues, performing tests on equipment/programs, and teaching clients how to use equipment/programs.  The ideal candidate will be able to work diligently and accurately and will possess great problem-solving abilities in order to fix issues quickly and ensure successful functionality.  With up to 50% travel domestically and internationally, our technicians exhibit a heavy presence at our client’s production sites and are the tangible extension of Xyntek’s far reaching benefit to its clients through the delivery of our turn key hardware and software systems.

The technician should have a strong knowledge of computers and how they operate, including having a broad understanding of hardware and software, operating systems, and basic computer programming. Familiarity with electronic equipment, electrical wiring, internet applications, and security is also required.  Technicians should also have good communication skills because this position requires frequent interaction with clients.

Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate will provide project support on various automation platforms and systems including, but not limited to, PLC systems, SCADA systems, machine vision systems, robotic systems, conveyance systems, and various printing technologies.  Activities will include installation, configuration, and support of both new and existing projects.  

Activities Include:

  • System Design & Documentation
    • Assisting in the development of system specifications and user manuals;
    • Participating in client site engineering technical assessments;
  • Equipment Setup & Testing
    • Receipt of equipment deliveries, unpacking/uncrating, and distribution of  machinery, devices, and documentation to designated areas and recipients;
    • Performance of quality assurance activities with respect to verifying the state of equipment/software received from vendors, partners, and clients;
    • Preparation of equipment for initial powerup, including installation of power supply cables and continuity testing;
    • Installation and configuration of communication cables, switches, and other networking devices;
    • Installation of equipment devices and associated sensors;
    • Installation of software, custom drivers, and databases;
    • Configuration of operating systems, firewalls, and user groups;
    • Configuration of software applications, machinery, devices, sensors, etc.;
    • Setup and the preliminary execution of acceptance test protocols;
    • Factory acceptance test preparation and client support;
    • Testing punch list execution and resolution;
    • Disaster recovery activities, including recording of settings, backing up software/devices, and imaging embedded PCs;
    • Preparation and coordination of equipment for shipment;
  • Equipment Installation & Testing
    • Planning and submittal of travel arrangements for remote activities;
    • Travel to client remote sites and the establishment of relationship with client’s designated points of contact;
    • Coordination with other site vendors, the activities necessary to achieve a successful installation/integration;
    • Installation/Integration of equipment into existing production lines;
    • Assisting client validation teams in the execution of site acceptance testing;
    • Disaster recovery activities, including recording of settings, backing up software/devices, and imaging embedded PCs;
    • Providing training to site operators and site management;
    • Supporting live production runs;
  • General Engineering Operations
    • Assisting in processing client spare part requests and managing Xyntek software/hardware components and assets in inventory;
    • The building of test machinery;
    • Setup and configuration of demonstration equipment for internal training academies and client expositions;
    • Assisting with improving the engineering department’s various information systems;
    • Assisting in investigating potential new revenue streams through the creation and testing of new product developments;
    • Assisting in processing shipments to clients and vendors;
  • Support, Troubleshooting, & Repair
    • Receiving support requests for issues and concerns over equipment, software, devices, and networking, etc..  Providing support through local and remote diagnostic activities;
    • Performing equipment repair, including rewiring panels, building cables, replacing boards and components to identify or remedy failures;
    • Preparing and coordinating the transmittal of equipment out for repair and procuring replacement equipment.

Qualifications / Skills:

  • Associate or Bachelor degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering Technology, Network Administration, Information Security & Assurance, or Cybersecurity.  
  • Completion of equivalent technical training courses and professional certification combined with work experience will also be considered;
  • Voluntary Certifications (Preferred):
    • A+ certification
    • Linux+ certification
    • Microsoft certified IT professional certification
    • Cisco certified network associate certification
    • International information systems security certification consortium certification
  • Fundamental understanding of Software/Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies;
  • Demonstration of academic excellence;
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills;
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions;
  • Knowledge of general record keeping;
  • Ability to conduct training and informational sessions;
  • Excellent analysis and problem solving skills;
  • Ability to use the most common IT tools;
  • Ability to operate information system input devices;
  • Ability to diagnose hardware and/or software problems;
  • Knowledge of some basic programing and database languages, including internship / co-op experience or coursework in some of the following - C, C++, Visual C, Visual Basic, Java, .NET, HTML, JSP, ASP, Oracle, or SQL;
  • Thorough knowledge of Windows operating systems and Microsoft applications;
  • Familiarity with LAN and WAN networking;
