Job Overview:
Xyntek is looking for qualified Field Installation Technicians to support turnkey system integration projects within the life science industry that make use of IT,  automation, and controls technology.  Specifically, support of projects in the manufacturing & packaging environment and track & trace serialization of pharmaceutical products.  Wherein, the Xyntek Field Installation Technician is an integral contributor to the Xyntek Engineering delivery team.

Activities performed by Xyntek Field Installation Technicians include, in general, performing turnkey technical services for the implementation of new & existing equipment installations/integrations, configuration, maintenance & support.  The Xyntek Field Installation Technician provides direct project support on various automation system platforms including, but not limited to, manufacturing/packaging equipment, PLC systems, SCADA systems, machine vision systems, robotic systems, conveyance systems, and various printing technologies.

In addition, the Xyntek Field Installation Technician has direct involvement in all stages of equipment/solution installation projects including, but not limited to, installing control software, firmware, and device drivers, PLC/Control system configuration, monitoring computer processing systems, diagnosing & troubleshooting system & device issues, electrical wiring, performing qualification testing of equipment & systems, and assisting in the delivery of end user training and support.

The ideal candidate will be able to work accurately and diligently and will possess great problem-solving abilities in order to fix issues successfully and quickly.  The technician should have a strong knowledge and broad understanding of various hardware and software systems and operating systems and possess excellent equipment/system troubleshooting abilities and communication skills.  Familiarity with industry specific manufacturing and packaging equipment and previous hands on experience with equipment/system installation & integration is preferred.

Responsibilities and Duties:
Inclusive of the areas discussed above, some specific responsibilities and duties of the Xyntek Field Installation Technician include:

  • System Design & Documentation
    • Assist in the development & review of system specifications and user manuals;
    • Assist in the review and confirmation of system as-built electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Equipment/System Setup & Testing
    • Support receipt of equipment deliveries, unpacking/uncrating, and distribution of machinery, devices, and documentation to designated areas and recipients;
    • Performance of quality assurance activities with respect to verifying the state of received equipment/software from vendors, partners, and clients;
    • Preparation of equipment for initial power-up, including installation of power supply cables and continuity testing;
    • Installation and configuration of equipment/system communication cables, switches, and other networking devices;
    • Installation & configuration of equipment software, devices and associated sensors;
      Performance of basic operating system configuration activities (e.g., permissions, user groups, network settings, system backups, etc.);
    • Assist in factory acceptance testing preparation, execution, and closeout activities.
  • Equipment Installation & Testing
    • Travel to remote client sites and the establishment of relationship with client’s designated points of contact;
    • Coordination with other client site vendors regarding activities that are necessary to achieve a successful installation/integration;
    • Integration of equipment into existing production lines;
    • Assist client quality departments with execution of equipment/system site acceptance testing;
    • Support disaster recovery preparatory activities, including the recording of settings, backing up of software/devices, and imaging of embedded PCs;
    • Support troubleshooting and resolution of identified inconsistencies in equipment/system functions or sequence of operations;
    • Support training end-user operators.
  • Support, Troubleshooting & Repair
    • Assist in client support requests for issues and concerns over equipment, software, devices, and networking, etc.;
    • Assist in client support through local or remote diagnostic activities;
    • Assist in coordination and communication with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) personnel regarding technical support needs;
    • Performance of equipment repair, including rewiring panels, building cables, and replacing equipment/system components.

Qualifications / Skills:


  • Ability to analyze and diagnose hardware and/or software problems;
  • Strong knowledge and ability to use the most common IT tools, basic electrical tools, and basic mechanical tools;
  • Experience with encryption, security, and networking concepts;
  • Ability to understand technical diagrams, manuals, and schematics;
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills;
  • Possession of strong customer service skills to handle customer concerns with sensitivity;
  • Ability to become a trusted advisor to customers;
  • Ability to work in cross-functional team environments;
    Ability to work quickly, under pressure, and without supervision;
  • Strong sense of project ownership and personal responsibility;
  • Possession of a valid driver's license that is in good standing.


  • Associate or Bachelor degree in Information Technology or Engineering related fields is encouraged and preferred. Completion of equivalent technical training courses and professional certification and previous work experience will also be considered.
  • Two (2) years of industry related experience in automation controls and/or systems integration experience with automation equipment, process control systems, communications / network products, OPC software, HMI/MMI/SCADA, operator interfaces etc.;
  • Working knowledge of, or hands on experience with, industrial vision applications;
    Experience with automation platform vendors such as Rockwell Automation, Siemens, ABB, Honeywell, Emerson, Wonderware, GE, etc.;
  • Experience with interfacing various control systems to middle layer data collection/historian applications and communication to other control systems such as SCADA, MES, Data Historians, ERP, SPC, etc.;
  • Knowledge of MES systems (e.g. Emerson Syncade, Rockwell ProPack Data, Werum PAS-X, POMSnet);
  • Experience programming and configuring PLCs such as Allen Bradley Micrologix, Controllogix, SLC & Siemens S7 platforms;
  • Knowledge of DCS systems, information/data management systems, relational databases and interfacing (especially OPC);
  • Experience implementing projects in a regulated/validated environment.
